PUREGUARD Two-Stage Shower Filtration System

Most shower filters are a single cartridge inside the head. Carbon works by adsorption, and adsorption needs two things — mass and contact time. A head-sized cartridge gives you about a second of contact at full flow. PureGuard is built as two stages instead. An inline canister mounts on the tap, upstream, holding many times the carbon a head can fit; water passes through it first, then through a second carbon stage in the head before it reaches you.

Carbon is the media that matters here. It's what municipal treatment plants use to take chlorine and its by-products out of water. Most shower filters use KDF or calcium sulphite — those act on the chlorine you can smell, but not on the compounds it has already formed in the supply line before the water reaches your house. Carbon is the common media that traps those.

This is a shower question, not a drinking-water one. In a hot shower those compounds go airborne and your skin takes them in, and heat increases both. Drink them and your liver filters them first. Breathe them or absorb them and there's nothing in between.

Installs by hand in about a minute — canister onto the tap, hose onto the canister, head stays where it is. No plumber, no tools, PTFE tape in the box. Fits standard US shower arms.
